The COVID-19 pandemic has dealt the music business a body blow. Since March, there has been few to no gigs anywhere. The Bay Area is on lockdown, along with most of the world for parts of the year. And being a musician, this inspired me to write a song about this experience. I am proud to release LOCKDOWN THE WORLD on YouTube and coming to Spotify and all digital platforms around September 17.
I wrote and performed the song at my home studio, with remote tracks provided by The Blues Hopman and Ghiekeith Ayers on guitars, and Doc Robinson on bass. The pandemic has made musicians adapt to this new reality and technology has provided the means to collaborate over long distances.
We all miss performing live in front of our friends and fans. But until then I will focus on recording and releasing new music.
I am also collaborating with Gene Murden on his new project. We are recording at 25th Street Studio in Oakland, CA, which is a great facility. Gene is a great vocalist and gospel artist. I performed on his 2017 project which had several hits, getting airplay on gospel radio.
Please check out LOCKDOWN on your favorite digital platform. I hope you enjoy it as mush as we did recording it. Stay safe and well. - MJ
